On 25th November 2018, after an 8 month battle with metastatic stomach cancer, Philippe Rey passed away. In reality, it was a battle that couldn't be won, but when asked how he was coping, Philippe, stoic and sweet until the end, would always simply reply "pas mal".

Philippe was many things to many people in the European underground music community: a gifted and self-effacing musician, a tireless promoter of DIY shows, a passionate advocate of experimental music as one half of the Atelier Ciseaux label. Not that he would ever have vaunted these achievements; everyone who knew him would describe him as a humble, honest and quietly loving friend, but self-critical to a fault (were he still with us, he probably would have found a tribute like this excruciatingly embarrassing).

The lives of everyone who features on this compilation were enriched by Philippe's, support, labour and love. This is our way of saying thanks. It's a testament to a great musician, friend and human being.

All profits from this compilation will go towards a festival celebrating Philippe's life, which will take place in Bordeaux this summer, and will aim to bring together as many of these artists as possible.

Je tiens à remercier chaleureusement tous les groupes qui ont répondu favorablement à ma requête. Merci pour la musique et pour votre témoignage d’amitié envers Philippe. Je suis persuadé qu’il doit trouver ça “pas mal” de là où il se trouve désormais. Et je tiens aussi à m’excuser d’avoir probablement oublié plein de gens avec qui Philippe a sympathisé au cours de ces différentes périodes musicales. Je pense à Mattia du groupe italien Nervous Kids, Hines du groupe écossais Project Ven:Hell… Bref, j’en oublie probablement d’autres. Sincere Apologies !
Et bien sûr, merci à Zeynep, la compagne de Philippe, pour avoir accompagné Philippe ces dernières années et l'avoir soutenu tout au long de sa maladie.

Pour cette série , je n'avais pas d'intentions, autre que peindre.Les visages sont apparus de manière spontanée. Parmi 180 aquarelles, celle-ci m'a toujours fait penser à Philippe....
Et puis c'est quand même moi qui ai fait les dessins des pochettes de Sincab à l'époque! Je crois qu'il aimait bien mon trait! Alors ...celui-ci ....c'est pour lui."
